Commentary: This picture shows a bronze equestrian statue of the emperor Augustus (63 BCE-14 CE). This statue, recovered from a shipwreck, is the only lifesize equestrian statue of Augustus which has survived to the present day. The horse's reins were held in the statue's left hand.
