Title / Description: Bouleuterion
Provenance: Priene, Turkey
Object Type: image - architecture

Commentary: Priene is located on the western coast of modern day Turkey. Despite a rather unexceptional history, Priene is an important site archaeologically as it is a well-preserved example of a Greek planned city. This is a picture of the Bouleuterion, a theatre-like gathering place for civic assemblies that had a capacity of roughly 650 people and dimensions of 20 by 21 meters.
