Commentary: This statue, depicting Augustus (r. 31 BCE-14 CE) was created after his death, during the reign of his successor, Tiberius (r. 14- 37 CE). The deified Augustus is shown in a pose recalling that of the statue of Jupiter (Zeus) at Olympia.
